A community-based tourism (CBT) program in Bohol is showcasing a more immersive way to experience the province beyond its well-known attractions.
Led by Tourism Promotions Board Philippines in partnership with Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports, the initiative runs from April 21 to 24, 2026. It brings together chefs, media, influencers, and tourism industry representatives to explore how local communities shape travel experiences.
The program highlights how tourism can go beyond sightseeing by connecting visitors with local culture, food, and livelihoods. Activities include visits to areas such as the Loboc River, farms, and weaving communities, where participants engage with residents and learn about daily life.
Food is a key focus of the immersion, showing how local ingredients and traditions reflect the province’s identity. Stops like Lasang Farm and the town of Tubigon demonstrate how agriculture and craftsmanship contribute to the local economy and culture.
Even popular destinations like the Chocolate Hills are presented through a community lens, adding context through local stories and perspectives.
Tourism officials said the initiative aims to promote more meaningful and responsible travel by strengthening the link between visitors and host communities, while supporting sustainable tourism development in Bohol.
