Following a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake offshore Sarangani province, Globe Telecom has launched its disaster response measures as PHIVOLCS issued a tsunami warning for Southern Mindanao coasts, calling for immediate evacuation to higher ground.
The telco is coordinating with local governments, disaster agencies, and partners to check damage to communities and network facilities. As of this afternoon, service disruptions have been noted in nine provinces covering about 30 municipalities, with Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat facing the worst signal issues. Many sites lost grid power after utilities shut off supply for safety, but are running on battery backups to keep critical lines open.
Globe’s restoration teams are already on the ground, according to chief sustainability and corporate communications officer Yoly Crisanto, who added that the firm is working closely with authorities and power providers to restore full service safely and quickly. Free call, charging, and Wi-Fi stations will be set up in key areas once cleared safe, with locations to be announced officially. Customers are advised to prioritize safety, follow official guidelines, and stay alert for aftershocks and sea changes.
