Manila Water, partners deliver WASH aid after quake, Mayon eruption

Manila Water Company, via its social development arm Manila Water Foundation (MWF) and unit Manila Water Philippine Ventures-Cebu, joined forces with Manny Pacquiao Holdings and Sarangani’s disaster office to launch water relief in Malapatan and Glan towns, following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Soccsksargen.

This effort falls under MWF’s AGAPAY: WASH in Emergencies Program, which brings safe water, hygiene kits, and sanitation facilities to disaster zones to prevent illness and protect community well-being. Teams deployed a mobile treatment plant and 10-cubic-meter tanker, drawing water from Malapatan River. Over four days, they supplied clean water to 4,660 people in Malapatan and 20,216 in Glan. By June 14, a total of 25,500 liters of treated water had been distributed; residents and leaders expressed gratitude for the life-sustaining support.

Separately, responding to Mayon Volcano’s activity and ashfall in Albay, MWF partnered with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) to turn over aid in Tabaco City’s Barangay Magapo: 250+ blankets and mosquito nets, plus 100 units of five-gallon drinking water. Manila Water officials formally handed over the supplies to MWSS Administrator Leonor Cleofas, whose team then delivered them to affected families.

Cleofas praised the donation, noting it complemented government relief and showed how corporate social responsibility becomes a lifeline during crises. Mayon’s ongoing eruptions, lava flows, and ash have displaced many, with authorities conducting evacuations and response operations.

Manila Water reaffirmed its commitment to environmental care and community resilience, stressing that public-private partnerships are key to addressing climate and disaster risks. The AGAPAY initiative is part of broader regional response efforts by the Razon Group and its foundations.
