DP World and local partner Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) have designated the Batangas Integrated Port (BIP) as the world’s first READY Port — a global standard for disaster preparedness and humanitarian logistics.
The READY Port program, led by the UN Logistics Cluster, aims to strengthen port readiness so countries can better respond during emergencies. The Philippines was chosen as the pilot site because it faces frequent climate risks and natural disasters. The framework creates a coordinated system linking government, private firms, and aid groups to keep logistics running during crises.
The designation follows a three-day workshop at BIP, held with the World Food Programme (WFP). Participants tested response plans, reviewed protocols, and ran emergency scenarios. Results are now compiled into a Port Readiness Action Plan to guide improvements locally and globally.
BIP is a key gateway for trade, passengers, and cargo connecting Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
DP World’s Glen Hilton noted the port now serves both trade and as a lifeline for communities. DOTr Assistant Secretary Manuel Cabochan praised the whole-of-society approach. WFP’s Joao Dos Santos Merencio added the model ensures ports stay operational and prioritize aid when needed most.
