Six power generation companies want a piece of the 1,800 megawatts of electricity that the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is sourcing under an ongoing competitive selection process or CSP.
Jose Ronald Valles, Meralco first vice president and head of regulatory management, said interested parties had only until Monday, 13 November, to submit their expression of interest for the bidding.
Meralco, he said, needs all that power under a firm contract by December 2024.
Valles said power companies may choose to bid for only portions of the 1,800 MW Meralco requirement that had been green lighted by the Department of Energy (DOE) as a 15-year contract.
A pre-bid conference has also been scheduled for 20 November with bid submissions lapsing on the 26th December this year.
Meralco said the CSP will replace the capacity covered by 2021 power supply agreements with Excellent Energy Resources Inc. and Masinloc Power Partners Co. Ltd. which were terminated earlier this year.
Meralco said the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved of the termination of the contracts only last month.
