BSP assures steady supply of fresh currency for holiday season

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has assured the public that it is continuing to produce fresh banknotes and coins in anticipation of the higher demand expected during the Christmas season.

As the holidays approach, there is typically a surge in the need for clean, crisp bills and coins, driven by the Filipino tradition of giving cash gifts, or aguinaldo, to family, friends, and godchildren. The BSP emphasized that it is fully prepared to meet this seasonal demand, ensuring that fresh currency will be available at banks across the country.

The central bank also reminded the public that exchanging old or unfit currency for new notes and coins is free of charge at designated depository banks.

In line with the growing trend of digital transactions, the BSP encouraged Filipinos to consider sending e-aguinaldo as an alternative to physical cash. The move toward digital gifts not only offers convenience and efficiency but also supports the BSP’s ongoing efforts to promote a more inclusive and digitally advanced Philippine economy.
