PLDT Global Corp., the international arm of the PLDT Group, has partnered with BBIX, Inc., a leading Internet Exchange (IX) provider in Asia, to launch a remote peering service in the Philippines. The initiative aims to enhance global connectivity and position the country as a strategic digital hub in the region.
Through the PLDT network, the new service will allow businesses seamless access to BBIX’s extensive global ecosystem, enabling faster, more reliable, and secure connections to international content providers without requiring physical presence in foreign markets.
Albert Villa-Real, president and CEO of PLDT Global, called the partnership a “milestone” in strengthening the country’s role in the global digital economy. “By leveraging BBIX’s carrier-neutral IX platform, we are enabling businesses to connect to the global digital economy with greater speed and security,” he said.
Roderick Santiago, PLDT and Smart’s First VP and Head of Network Strategy, emphasized the Group’s commitment to developing world-class digital infrastructure, aligning with PLDT’s vision to make the Philippines a key gateway for digital traffic in Asia.
BBIX CEO Hideyuki Sasaki welcomed PLDT Global to its growing IX ecosystem, highlighting the synergy between PLDT’s robust infrastructure and BBIX’s low-latency, cost-efficient network spanning Asia, North America, and Europe.
The partnership integrates PLDT’s international cable systems and Points of Presence with BBIX’s global platform, offering enterprises enhanced scalability and connectivity across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
