For three days, Bohol traded its usual island rhythm for the hum of spinning wheels as Giro d’ Luca returned, turning the province into a moving celebration of cycling, wellness, and friendship.
Now in its 13th year, the beloved ride has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a birthday cycling trip organized by restaurateur and multisport athlete Gianluca Guidicelli in 2012.
What started as a gathering of family and friends has evolved into one of the country’s most sought-after cycling experiences—though it has carefully avoided becoming just another mass-participation event. That exclusivity is part of the charm.
From May 29 to 31, riders covered more than 400 kilometers across Panglao and neighboring areas, weaving through coastal roads, sleepy villages, and postcard-worthy landscapes.
The route offered plenty of opportunities to test endurance, but the real reward often came in the form of sea breezes, stunning views, and the occasional reminder to stop and appreciate where the road had led.
“For thirteen years, Giro d’ Luca has always been about bringing people together through a shared passion for cycling, wellness, and community,” Guidicelli said.
The event also underscored the growing appeal of wellness tourism, where travelers seek experiences that combine fitness, nature, and meaningful connections. In Bohol, those elements came naturally.
The Bellevue Resort Bohol, Giro d’ Luca’s longtime hotel partner, served as the riders’ home base and hosted the now-traditional Sunday Socials, which doubled as a birthday celebration for Guidicelli.
The festivities ended on a high note with a DJ set by Paolo Guidicelli, proving that after hundreds of kilometers on a bicycle, participants still had enough energy left to dance.
More than a cycling event, Giro d’ Luca has become a rolling postcard for Bohol—one that showcases not just the island’s beauty, but the joy of slowing down, connecting with others, and finding wellness one pedal stroke at a time.
