UNIQLO brings Filipino craftsmanship into everyday fashion

Filipino craftsmanship is getting a modern platform through UNIQLO’s Re.UNIQLO Studio, which has introduced Special Artisan Patches inspired by indigenous communities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Created with artist and art director Wilson Limon and local artisan communities, the handcrafted patches turn Re.UNIQLO fabric scraps into wearable expressions of Filipino heritage, blending traditional designs with everyday clothing.

The Luzon collection draws from Itneg artisans in Abra, whose motifs feature geometric patterns, animals, human figures, and elements of nature. In the Visayas, Panay Bukidnon artisans from Iloilo contribute traditional Panubok embroidery rooted in oral traditions and ancestral beliefs.

T’boli artisans from Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, meanwhile, draw inspiration from mountains, wildlife, and dream imagery, bringing another layer of indigenous storytelling to the collection.

Customers can bring a well-loved UNIQLO piece or buy a new one, choose an artisan patch, and have it sewn onto their clothing for P300, inclusive of the embroidery service, at participating stores.

The initiative goes beyond customization, positioning fashion as a channel for cultural preservation while giving discarded fabric a second life.

Proceeds from every patch directly support partner artisan communities and Schools of Living Traditions (SLT), in partnership with the ABS-CBN Foundation.

Established by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in 1995, SLT programs help preserve Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices by passing traditional arts, crafts, music, and oral traditions to younger generations.

The program also gives consumers a tangible way to engage with cultural heritage without separating it from everyday life. Each patch effectively becomes both a design element and a small piece of Filipino storytelling.

Re.UNIQLO Special Artisan Patches are available at participating Re.UNIQLO Studios in UNIQLO stores nationwide.
