Mitsubishi revives Outlander as flagship PHEV SUV

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) is bringing back the Outlander nameplate as its new flagship SUV, marking the Japanese automaker’s entry into the Philippine plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) market.

The All-New Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV goes on sale nationwide today, Aug. 20, as MMPC expands its electrified lineup with a model positioned between conventional vehicles and fully electric cars.

Priced at P2.848 million, the seven-seat SUV combines a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with front and rear electric motors, producing 306 PS and 450 Nm of torque. It can travel up to 100 kilometers on electric power alone and offers a combined driving range of nearly 1,000 kilometers.

The PHEV system also addresses one of the biggest hurdles facing EV adoption, charging access. The Outlander can operate as a hybrid when charging facilities are unavailable, while its AC Type 2 compatibility allows owners to use the country’s expanding EV charging network.

Drivers can choose among Normal, Save, Charge, and EV Priority modes depending on driving conditions and energy requirements.

The SUV also features Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control system, pairing twin-motor four-wheel drive with stability and traction systems. Seven drive modes are available, covering everyday roads as well as gravel, mud, and other challenging terrain.

“The All-New Outlander PHEV is MMPC’s new SUV flagship model,” MMPC President and CEO Ritsu Imaeda said.

The Outlander PHEV carries a regular price of P2.848 million, but MMPC is offering an introductory price of P2.749 million for reservations and releases made through Sept. 30.

Its return puts Mitsubishi squarely into the Philippines’ expanding electrified vehicle market, where automakers are rolling out hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric models to meet growing demand for more efficient mobility.

For MMPC, the Outlander PHEV is more than a revived nameplate. It is the company’s first plug-in hybrid offering in the country and a key step in broadening its electrified vehicle portfolio.
