SM Prime expands three regional malls in 2026

SM Prime Holdings Inc. is expanding three malls in Iloilo, Batangas, and Naga, adding about 70,000 square meters of gross floor area to its regional retail portfolio in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The projects will broaden retail, dining, entertainment, and commercial offerings in three major regional centers, while introducing new brands and concepts to their respective markets.

“The cities of Iloilo, Sto. Tomas, and Naga are major economic hubs in their respective regions, with strong potential to attract more businesses and investment,” SM Prime President Jeffrey C. Lim said.

“Through these mall expansions, we aim to support their continued growth by creating more opportunities for MSMEs, generating local employment, and contributing to stronger communities,” he added.

The largest project is the SM City Iloilo North Block, which will add about 35,000 square meters of gross floor area as part of a mixed-use development.

The expansion will feature covered multi-level parking and new ground-floor spaces for essential services, medical and wellness facilities, specialty stores, convenience stores, and cafes. It will also house a National University campus.

In Batangas, SM City Sto. Tomas will add more than 26,000 square meters through a new third level.

The expansion will bring in amusement concepts, restaurants, wellness establishments, and retail stores, along with a dedicated Trade Hall, co-working and meeting spaces, and visual installations. Additional surface parking will support the mall’s expanded capacity.

SM City Naga will undergo a two-storey expansion covering about 9,000 square meters. The project will add parking and extend the roof deck while redeveloping existing tenant areas to improve circulation and the overall customer experience.

SM Prime said the three projects will incorporate energy- and water-efficient systems, solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and enhanced waste management facilities as part of its sustainability commitments.

The expansions are also expected to create local employment, with residents in the three areas to be prioritized for job opportunities.

The projects form part of SM Prime’s broader regional expansion strategy, positioning its malls as commercial hubs that serve not only shoppers but also businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities as regional economies continue to grow.
