Megaworld is accelerating its hospitality expansion, targeting nearly 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032 as it moves deeper into some of the Philippines’ fastest-growing tourism destinations, including Palawan and Ilocos Norte.
The property developer said the expansion will combine its homegrown hotel brands with international brands, adding capacity in major tourism and business hubs while strengthening its position in the country’s hospitality industry.
To support the growth, Megaworld has established Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR), which will consolidate its hotel portfolio under two operating groups.
Megaworld Hotels & Resorts will manage properties in Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas, and Cebu. Megaworld Global Hospitality will oversee Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, the company’s largest hotel, as well as new properties in Palawan and three hotels in Iloilo, namely Courtyard by Marriott, Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, and Belmont Hotel Iloilo.
“One of our biggest contributions to nation-building is to help make our tourism industry more vibrant and attractive, especially to foreign visitors,” Megaworld President and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso said.
Alliance Global Group Inc. President and CEO Kevin L. Tan said tourism can drive sustainable economic growth by creating jobs, supporting local businesses, attracting visitors, and opening opportunities for communities.
The new structure will be led by industry veterans Socrates Alvaro, managing director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, and Anna Vergara, managing director of Megaworld Global Hospitality.
Alvaro has nearly two decades of hospitality experience across the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Maldives, Thailand, and other Asian markets. Vergara spent more than 32 years with Marriott International.
Megaworld’s hospitality business was its fastest-growing recurring-income segment in the first half of 2026, with revenue rising 11 percent to P3.1 billion.
Growth was helped by the opening of the 405-room Belmont Hotel Iloilo, bringing Megaworld’s hotel room inventory in Iloilo to nearly 1,000 rooms.
