BDO Foundation has reached its 250‑milestone for restored rural health facilities since launching the program in 2012, with Compostela Rural Health Unit in Cebu as the landmark site. The turnover coincides with BDO’s 50th anniversary, following 22 completed facility upgrades across the country so far in 2026.
The 250 health centers serve over 11 million Filipinos mostly in disaster‑prone areas, where aging infrastructure and recent calamities such as Typhoon Tino and last year’s earthquake had damaged buildings and disrupted basic care. Rural health units are the first point of medical help for low‑income communities, where health workers continued serving despite poor facilities, supply shortages and utility gaps.
Upgrades include improved interiors, lighting, waiting areas, clearer signages and children’s play spaces, creating safer surroundings for patients and better working conditions for medical staff. The renovated sites now meet Department of Health and Philhealth standards, allowing local governments to tap additional health resources. The rehabilitation program supports the country’s push for universal health care and Sustainable Development Goal 3 on health and well‑being for all.
Local health officials and community representatives gathered in Compostela, Cebu to celebrate the milestone and expanded primary care access for rural residents.
