Singapore firm constructing 11.9-MW solar rooftop in Batangas

Singapore-based firm TotalEnergies ENEOS has partnered with electronics manufacturer Kinpo Group to provide it with 11.9 megawatts (MW) of solar rooftop power at its Batangas facility.

The photovoltaic system will generate 16,700 megawatt-hours of renewable power each year equal to 17 percent of the energy requirements while reducing its carbon emissions by 8,000 tons a year, equivalent to planting 120,000 trees.

Under the agreement, TotalEnergies ENEOS will fund, install and operate the rooftop solar system while Kinpo pay only for the electricity generated for 20 years, avoiding any upfront costs.

Kinpo said the project is its first solar rooftop project in the Philippines and will contribute to the group’s carbon neutrality strategy of constructing in-house renewable energy supply.

The parties did not discuss partnership costs.

Kinpo Group is a Taiwan-based firm focused on electronic manufacturing services and original design manufacturing.

Earlier this year, TotalEnergies was tapped by Real Steel Corp. for the installation of a 16.8-MW rooftop solar system at its manufacturing facility in San Simon, Pampanga.

The installation is expected to generate 26,000 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually and significantly cut operational expenses and carbon footprint of the country’s first high-speed rolling mill.

TotalEnergies ENEOS is a joint venture between TotalEnergies and ENEOS formed in 2022 to develop onsite solar distributed generation across Asia. It plans to develop over 2,000 MW of decentralized solar capacity over the next five years.
