PLDT and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are swiftly restoring both fixed and wireless networks in regions where commercial power has been restored following severe Tropical Storm Kristine’s impact.
“Our network repair teams are actively working to restore connectivity in areas like Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, and Camarines Sur, where commercial power has come back,” said Cathy Yang, first vice president and group head of corporate communications at PLDT and Smart.
Yang said while the extent of damage to lines leading to individual homes affects the speed of restoration, PLDT and Smart remain dedicated to reconnecting affected communities as quickly as possible.
In addition to restoring connectivity, the PLDT Group, through the Alagang Kapatid Foundation, Inc. (AKFI), is delivering relief supplies, including food and medicine, to employees directly impacted by the storm. Two batches of supplies were successfully transported to Naga City on Friday afternoon via chartered flights. AKFI trucks are also en route with additional relief goods. Community members wishing to support those affected can contribute via online donations using a QR code provided by AKFI and PLDT Group’s fintech unit, Maya.
Moreover, PLDT and Smart’s disaster resilience initiatives highlight their commitment as lead convenors of the PROTECTA Pilipinas alliance. This coalition of public agencies and private companies aims to enhance the resilience of telecom networks through redundancy, disaster recovery plans, and cybersecurity protocols to minimize disruptions during emergencies.
