BSP warns against fraudulent use of its name by fraudsters

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has issued a public warning against a fraudulent scheme involving a company identified as UNA Financing Corporation, which has been unlawfully using the BSP’s name, logo, and even the identities of its employees and officers to deceive individuals.

According to reports received by the central bank, the scheme involves soliciting fees and personal information from individuals under the false pretense of securing a BSP clearance for loan releases. The BSP categorically denied any connection to UNA Financing Corporation and emphasized that it does not engage in lending transactions with private individuals, either directly or through intermediaries.

As the Philippines’ central monetary authority, the BSP exclusively deals with regulated financial institutions in the conduct of its official functions. At no time will the BSP or any of its personnel request fees, personal banking information, or any form of payment from individuals for the processing or approval of loans.

The BSP said that such fraudulent activities are a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and exploit the central bank’s credibility. It advised the public to exercise caution, avoid sending money to unverified accounts, and refrain from engaging with anyone falsely claiming affiliation with the BSP.

The public is encouraged to verify any suspicious claims with the BSP and to report such incidents to law enforcement authorities. Reports of fraudulent use of the BSP’s name or identity may also be submitted directly to the BSP through its official contact channels.
