BSP unveils art exhibit on culture and capital

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in collaboration with the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP), has launched “Kultura. Kapital. Kasalukuyan. Contemporary Art from the BSP Collection”, at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila. The exhibit underscores the central bank’s role not only in economic stewardship but also in cultural preservation.

BSP governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. emphasized that the exhibit “tells us stories of our identity, our struggles, our hope,” reinforcing the vital connection between cultural depth and nation-building. Deputy governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat added that art should be accessible and provoke public reflection on shared national narratives.

Curated into two thematic sections—Pagmulat (highlighting resistance, remembrance, and reflection) and Pagtanaw(focusing on post-1980s artistic expression and renewed freedoms)—the exhibition features works from over 30 prominent Filipino artists including Roberto Chabet, Brenda Fajardo, Danilo Dalena, and Geraldine Javier.

The collection, drawn from the BSP’s own holdings, explores intersections of creative expression, economic resilience, labor, and social transformation. The exhibit highlights the BSP’s commitment to safeguarding cultural assets alongside its financial mandate.

Open to the public from 15 August 2025, to 15 November 2027, at Galleries XVIII and XIX of the National Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibit is free of charge. The BSP Collection continues to be a testament to the country’s rich artistic legacy and evolving identity.
