PLDT Enterprise is introducing SmartSafe SilentAccess, a new technology designed to protect Filipinos from online scams linked to one-time passwords (OTPs). The innovation offers a safer and simpler way to verify digital transactions without relying on SMS-based OTPs, which are often targeted by hackers and scammers.
The new system authenticates users silently and in real time through PLDT’s Smart Communications network, allowing secure logins and payments without extra steps. PLDT is the first Philippine telco to launch this kind of network-powered authentication, which has earned global GSMA certification.
According to PLDT Enterprise executives, SmartSafe supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas directive for financial institutions to move beyond OTPs, and aligns with efforts by the NTC and NPC to strengthen consumer protection.
SilentAccess is the first of several tools under the SmartSafe fraud management suite, which will also include solutions against SIM swap fraud, network location verification, and safer Know-Your-Customer (KYC) checks.
PLDT said SmartSafe aims to build a safer, more trusted digital environment for businesses and consumers alike — helping secure online banking, shopping, and other mobile transactions that power the country’s growing digital economy.
