Meralco to energize emerging greenfield ecozones

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has partnered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) to support the development of new “greenfield” ecozones, including the Pantao Ecozone in Albay and the Palawan Mega Ecozone in Puerto Princesa.

Under a new memorandum of understanding, Meralco will provide reliable and affordable power to these emerging economic zones, while PEZA will handle site assessments, permits, and coordination. Currently, Meralco supplies electricity to 244 out of the country’s 433 ecozones.

Meralco executives, including chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan and COO Ronnie L. Aperocho, joined PEZA director general Tereso Panga in signing the agreement.

“This partnership is a key step in building ecozones that will drive growth for the Philippines,” said Aperocho. He added that combining PEZA’s focus on competitive investment destinations with Meralco’s energy expertise will make dependable power the backbone of sustainable development.
