Clark Water, Laguna Water recognized as IWA Climate Smart Utilities for 2025

Clark Water and Laguna Water, two non-East Zone units of Manila Water, were named Climate Smart Utilities for 2025 by the International Water Association (IWA) during the IWA Water and Development Congress in Bangkok from December 8 to 12, 2025. The recognition honors utilities showing leadership in climate adaptation, emissions reduction, and stakeholder engagement.

Laguna Water earned special distinction for its use of innovative technologies to boost climate resilience. The utility reported an 18 percent reduction in carbon emissions in 2024, expanded the use of advanced wastewater treatment systems, and generated over 295,000 kW of solar energy in the past two years. It now serves more than 930,000 residents in Laguna while meeting national drinking water standards and reducing non-revenue water to 24 percent.

Clark Water was cited for long-term efficiency and resilience in the Clark Freeport Zone, where it serves over 1,200 commercial and industrial locators. It has sustained sub-10 percent non-revenue water for more than a decade, achieved 5–6 percent in 2025, and provides 100 percent sewer coverage across the zone. The utility also promotes water conservation, climate awareness, and plastic waste reduction.

Manila Water said the awards highlight how its operating units are advancing sustainable, climate-resilient water and sanitation services across different communities.
