A new satellite-based internet service had been launched at the Pasig Mega Market to support the expansion of Paleng-QR Ph Plus, the national digital payment initiative of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Enabled through Starlink technology, the public wifi service aims to provide reliable connectivity to market vendors, customers, and business establishments. This rollout follows a partnership between BSP and DICT designed to strengthen digital transactions across key areas including public markets, public transport, and small and medium enterprises.
During the event, BSP deputy governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat joined DICT undersecretary Sarah Maria Q. Sison to demonstrate an online payment transaction using the newly installed service. Also present were DICT assistant secretary Christian Mark G. Guingcangco, local store owner Cecilia Valencia, and Pasig City councilor Simon Gerard R. Tantoco.
Paleng-QR Ph Plus promotes the use of QR Ph, the country’s standard quick response code system, as a convenient and secure way to conduct cashless payments. The program seeks to bring digital financial services closer to communities and support the government’s goal of a cash-lite economy.
