Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co., better known as Meralco, has energized a new substation in Bulacan, expanding system capacity and strengthening power reliability in one of Central Luzon’s fast-growing provinces.
The new Bustos Substation was built to support rising electricity demand from households, businesses, educational institutions, and government facilities across the province as economic activity continues to expand.
The project included the installation of a 50-megavolt ampere (MVA) power transformer bank, three 69-kilovolt (kV) gas circuit breakers, six 69-kV disconnect switches, a 69-kV sub-transmission line, and a control house equipped with a 13.8-kV indoor modular switchgear.
The facility is expected to improve service reliability and provide additional capacity for customers in the City of Baliwag and the municipalities of Bustos, Angat, and San Rafael.
Among the institutions and commercial establishments expected to benefit are Bulacan State University, Baliwag District Hospital, Bustos Municipal Hall, National University Baliwag, WalterMart Baliwag, and SM City Baliwag.
The investment comes as Bulacan continues to attract residential, commercial, and industrial development, increasing the need for a more robust power distribution network.
Meralco said the project forms part of its broader program to modernize and expand its distribution infrastructure to support economic growth and meet the rising electricity requirements of the communities it serves.
The new substation also enhances the resilience of the local power system, helping ensure a more stable electricity supply as demand in Bulacan continues to climb.
