VinFast electric motorcycles target Philippine road conditions

VinFast is positioning its new electric motorcycles as Philippine-ready two-wheelers, with engineering designed to handle the country’s heat, humidity, heavy rains, and flood-prone roads.

The Vietnamese automaker’s two-wheeler division said its newly launched Evo, Feliz II, and Viper feature an IP67-rated electric powertrain designed to protect against dust and water exposure. The three models were launched in the Philippines on July 31.

VinFast said internal testing showed the motor and motor control unit can withstand submersion in up to 0.5 meter of water for 30 minutes, as well as 30 minutes of riding through water at the same depth.

The capability could be particularly relevant in the Philippines, where sudden downpours, flooded streets, potholes, and uneven roads are routine challenges for motorcycle riders, especially during the monsoon season.

VinFast also said its batteries are designed to meet European ECE-R136 safety requirements for impact protection. They feature overvoltage and overtemperature protection and have undergone internal durability testing at temperatures of up to 80°C.

The motorcycles were also subjected to a 500-hour salt spray test to assess corrosion resistance under humid and harsh-weather conditions.

Each model can use up to two removable 1.5-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate batteries. With two batteries, the Evo can deliver up to 5,200 watts, reach a top speed of 80 kph, and travel up to 150 kilometers on a charge.

The Feliz II has a top speed of 90 kph and a range of up to 145 kilometers.

The push comes as electric motorcycles gain ground as an alternative to conventional two-wheelers, but adoption depends heavily on reliability under actual Philippine driving conditions.

VinFast also opened 21 dealerships in a single day and offers warranty coverage of up to six years or 72,000 kilometers, signaling an effort to address both infrastructure access and consumer concerns as it builds its Philippine electric mobility business.
