Manila Water has maintained its non-revenue water or system losses below 15 percent as a key measure to secure water supply ahead of the anticipated strong El Niño that could last into 2027. The utility posted a 14.65 percent NRW level in August 2026 and a 14.29 percent year-to-date figure, performance comparable to utilities in developed nations and among the best in Asia. This means more treated water reaches customers instead of being lost through leaks, pipe bursts or other causes, with every 1 percent reduction yielding an extra 15 to 16 million liters daily. This achievement comes after nearly 30 years of targeted investments that brought losses down from roughly 63 percent when the concession began in 1997. The company also reported 100 percent compliance with its 24-hour repair commitment for all reported disruptive pipe bursts in August and through the first eight months of the year. Officials noted that curbing water losses is one of the most effective ways to stretch existing water resources, especially during prolonged dry spells, as part of broader efforts to ensure reliable round-the-clock service for over 7.9 million customers.
