Globe Telecom Inc. is advocating for policies that do not favor any single technology, in order to encourage innovation while maintaining strict standards for service quality, security, consumer rights, and fair competition.
According to Globe president and CEO Carl Cruz, no single technology can connect the entire country. He noted that mobile networks, fiber infrastructure, submarine cables, and satellite systems each serve an important purpose. Terrestrial networks form the existing backbone of digital services, while satellite technology helps reach remote islands, isolated communities, and disaster-hit areas where traditional infrastructure is difficult to build.
Connectivity is now recognized as essential infrastructure, similar to basic utilities such as water and electricity. It supports education, healthcare, finance, government transactions, and emergency response.
Globe is adopting a multi-network approach that combines different technologies. The company has already integrated satellite capabilities into its network and partnered with Starlink to extend coverage. During recent emergency responses in Mindanao, satellite solutions provided vital communication support while regular networks were being restored.
Globe emphasizes that closing connectivity gaps requires cooperation among industry players, regulators, and technology providers. The goal is to ensure every Filipino, regardless of location, has access to reliable and secure digital services.
